BOB GERYE

Bob Gerye is the founder of two unique high school programs in Las Vegas, NV, the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts and Spring Valley SLC/Professional Career Academy High School.  Las Vegas Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as New American High School in 2000 and as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School in 2002.  Spring Valley High School opened in August of 2004 As Nevada’s first wall-to wall smaller learning communities and professional career academy high school.

 

Bob was educated at Washburn University and the University of Kansas, receiving both bachelors and masters degrees in English, English Education and Administration.  Gerye was an English teacher in the suburban Kansas City area for many years, a corporate president of a retailing concern, and a high school principal in suburban Topeka, Kansas, before moving to Las Vegas in 1991.  He was tapped to begin the Las Vegas Academy in 1992, where he stayed for 11 years, developing one of the top academic and arts programs in the U.S.  In 2004, he was chosen to begin the Clark County School District’s first restructured high school, which opened in August of 2004.

 

Bob has been active in post-secondary education. Before moving to Las Vegas and teaching for the Community College of Southern Nevada in their teacher education program and the English department, Bob held adjunct professorships of English and English Education at the University of Kansas, Washburn University and Johnson County Community College.  He currently teaches in the post-graduate program for Sierra Nevada College, training post-baccalaureate students for teacher licensure.  As a graduate professor of Education for the University of Phoenix, he has developed many aspiring administrators over the past seven years.

 

In 1998, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce honored Bob with the Community Achievement Award in Education In 2000, the Clark County School District inducted him into the CCSD Education Hall of Fame.  In 2004, Bob was named the NASSP Nevada High School Principal of the Year, received the Jeffrey Lawrence Award for Lifetime Achievement tin the Arts from the International Network of Schools for Advancement of the Arts, and Washburn University named him a University Fellow for Lifetime Achievement in Education.

 

Bob Gerye has developed two nationally recognized, restructured high schools in Las Vegas, NV, that have been awarded the New American High School Award in 2002 and the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School Award in 2002.  He has been honored by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce with the Community Achievement Award in Education, NASSP as the Nevada Principal of the Year, the International Network of Schools for Advancement of Arts for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, and Washburn University as a University Fellow for Lifetime Achievement and Innovation in Education.
